The Last Voyage

The Last Voyage

I had visions of a life,
Fulfillment of purpose and delight;
I had visions of the sight,
Of the last phase, death can device.
My sun has set today during the sunrise.

I lay here counting the minutes,
I lay here uncaring;
Expecting passerby’s to find me feeble,
Hoping someone to quench my last thirst;
Hoping someone will cry silently and someone will burst.

I lay here unmoved today,
I need four souls to carry me to my abode;
Hey! If you are not free get me three;
I will be the fourth on the road.
Carry me!
